“When I was a kid my favorite relative was Uncle Caveman. After school we’d all go play in his cave, and every once in a while he would eat one of us. It wasn’t until later that I found out that Uncle Caveman was a bear.” ~ Jack Handy

Yesterday evening my husband and I walked to a local park to let our daughter run through the sprinklers. As we arrived the sun was fading to dusk, and we noticed a retired woman snapping photos of beautiful echinacea, which were highlighted by the warm and soft evening light. She asked whether we minded if she photographed Annabelle; we agreed and were flattered that she wanted to take pictures of our little beauty. So today I was inspired to photograph the echinacea growing in my neighborhood. Aren’t these beautiful flowers? To learn more about echinacea and their potential healing properties, click here.

Which one is the parrot?

Since turning 18 months, my little girl is not few for words. Today while Annabelle and I ran errands together, I thought about my mother’s remark that she couldn’t wait for me to start talking until she discovered that once I found my voice I wouldn’t stop talking.
As Annabelle and I crossed the parking lot of our local shopping center, my adorable parrot chirped, err shouted loudly: “Home! Home!” and “Pool! Pool!”
At least she’s a girl who knows what she wants . . .

“Juice!?!”
Annabelle holds her cup full of juice with both hands. Today I showed her how to pour a small pitcher of juice into her own glass cup. She is delighted to be able to enjoy the juice she pours herself, which I bet tastes better than dry rice and beans (what we poured when I first introduced her to Montessori’s pouring activity).
