I realize it’s Friday afternoon and everyone is gearing up for the weekend. Annabelle is sound asleep. She’s been sick now for a solid two days with a runny nose, fever, and no appetite. She says, “Mommy, my throat hurts . . . my eyes hurt.” I wish we could do something for her aside from giving her orange juice, tylenol, and encouraging her to eat what she can (ice cream?!? “Sure!”). I think I may pick up some ginger tea. Oh, and I’m feeling physically yuck today too. Just a sore body, don’t want to eat (but have been snacking all day), and my head is buzzing. At least Levi seems to be doing okay. Poor guy has been fighting off a cold since November . . . which adds up to almost half of his life . . . and yet he still smiles all the time. Yes, he has his wanky moments but whenever he sees anyone, and I really do mean anyone, his face lights up and he flirts, flirts, flirts. I love that about him.
And today I read and read and read. I’m hard at work on my home photography course. I get obsessive sometimes. I just finished Annie Leibovitz: At Work. Thank you Chris Orwig for suggesting the title. It was a fast read . . . less than 2 days which, for this mommy, is well, almost improbable.
In any case, I’ve also been tinkering around with iweb. I am a terrible web developer. My husband does most of the technical stuff for me . . . part of what intimidated me when I first purchased my first SLR, the Nikon D40, was that a camera is technical . . . it’s equipment, mechanical, digital, and well, that used to feel so foreign, to me.
Like I said, I have been tinkering around with iweb (and begging my husband for help . . . again, pretty pathetic, huh?). I finally put together a few basic pages for a web page where I am publishing my photography portfolio. My goal is to have something of a portfolio put together by the time I finish my Aperture 2 course. That would be phenomenal. And then what? I’m not quite sure. I love taking photographs of people. I am learning that while I am something of a loner, I also really enjoy people. I love faces. I love people watching. I once thought that the downside to photography is that it is an invasive medium . . . some folks consider it rude to have their photograph taken without permission (I have and likely will refrain from ever doing that . . . I think it is rude). Words though, a writer can observe people and paint them (without their knowledge or their being all that involved) into a fantasy . . . a fiction, perhaps. So I’m not sure whether or not I think that words are superior to photos, but I’m surely enjoying them both.
I digress. My new website is http://www.jessicamonte.com
My husband liked Star Mountain Photography. I did too. So, that is what we named it.
Will write more when the time arrives.

Thank you! Things on my site are sure to change but I just wanted to get something up so I can get going with this portfolio.
I am an engineer, and I worked for a decade as a computer programmer. I know from technology, and I STILL get my husband to help me with web design. I find web design sort of baffling.
But I think your page looks great! We (I) have big plans to get a family portrait of the four of us this year, and I wish I lived closer to all of the great photographers I know online.

Amber, yes, my hubby is also an engineer so he does his very best to help with the web stuff. Also, thank you . . . I didn’t do much but do the “apple” thing and click and drag things around, lol. Yes, the web is full of great photographers. I feel very luck for this reason . . . especially since I love to learn.
Hope you’re all on the rebound. I’m feeling better, but thinking that Ed has the flu. He’s much sicker than I am.
Off to check out your new site…

I hope Ed is feeling better! As it turns out, Levi is sick too. He was up all night. I’ve been awake with him since 4 a.m. I mean, full out screaming, like with colic. I’m worried he has an ear infection . . .
Anyway, thanks for stopping by and checking out my new site. I’d love feedback!
