I love this photo of your beautiful children. Doesn't Annabelle's face shine with interest and love for that little brother in her arms?

I'm so glad that all went well. Enjoy these precious days!

Hi Jessica
What a full on few days, glad everything is going well. Its amazing how often the oldest kid will get sick within hours or days of the new sibling ... Munchkin had croup within days of our baby being born, and had previously been uber-healthy .. the doctor said he sees it all the time and wonders if the stress of this huge life change on the older child knocks their immune system for a six! Blessings to you and yours, Gypsy xx

Hi Jessica,

So glad to hear everything went well with Levi's birth. We experienced some interesting responses by health care providers who seemed *shocked* by our choice to birth at home. We just responded very positively and matter of factly.

Regarding Annabelle...We had a similar situation with a fever that resulted in our oldest daughter having a febrile seizure (very normal when small kids experience a quickly elevating temperature) and ended up taking an ambulance to the hospital. Don't feel too badly!! :-) She was fine.

One thing we did learn from that experience was a few different ways to safely lower temps. The first is a few tablespoons of lemon in some water (if necessary, add dark honey to take the edge off) and the second is a few drops of Echinacea tincture in water (ask a good herbalist for the best amount per body weight). Both are very effective. Not to mention - both are immune boosting.

Blessings!!

Jessica,

SO GLAD to hear everyone's in good health! I just LOVE that photo of proud big sister, Annabelle, holding her new baby brother. She looks so happy, confident, and proud! She was so well-prepared by you and Matt for this next, exciting phase of your family!

I really hope I didn't sound rude asking about check-ups for baby, or nosy, or not supportive of alternative choices, because I've very supportive and so happy for you that your well-researched, well-thought-out, and safe homebirth became a reality for you. I've always supported alternative choices and have had to back-up some of my own choices and beliefs to unsupportive family members in the past---like nursing well beyond the infant stage, which was something some family members didn't understand. So, I really hope I didn't come across like that, or that you felt you had to defend your decisions, because you have made great decisions. I was just curious how baby check-ups are handled in home-births b/c the access to pediatricians could be different . . . just in case I ever encountered that in the future. So, thanks so much for taking the time to explain how you handled it. When my boys were born, twenty-some years ago, circumcisions were a routine part of the ob/gyn services, which I believe NOW I would feel very differently about. There are so many things that we can thoughtfully decide to do or NOT do, depending on what's right for us and our children. I'm sure, too, that you've opened some people's eyes who may not have considered a different setting than a hospital for a birth, because that's what they're accustomed to.

Anyway, I'm so sorry to hear the scare you had early on with Annabelle's elevated temp. and am so glad to hear everything worked out. I just feel bad for you, knowing that you had to go to the hospital so soon after your delivery, perhaps for both of your children. So glad things worked out for Annabelle, on their own. And how nice that you have grandmas around to help. Can't wait to take on that role, myself, someday . . .

I'm just so proud of you and all you've done. Enjoy your little ones and hope you have some peaceful, easy days ahead!

Love,
Ruth

glad to hear all turned out well. I know you're aware of my history & I didn't wish that on you/anyone, but it did create caution for anyone removed from a NICU. SO glad you didn't have to go down that road & have enjoyed a peaceful & relaxed birth (as much as possible, at least ;-) and glad to hear Anabelle is doing well now. Sending sleep vibes to all!

I'm glad everyone's well and that peace has been restored in your home. With two such small children it sounds like you guys are doing pretty well. I'm keeping you in my thoughts, and hoping for more peace and sleep in the days ahead.
