Happy Halloween! What a busy week we have had over here, although it has definitely been lots of fun (and lots of craziness too!). I just wanted to remind you that the contest for Santa Cruz Organic Teas is still going on. You can leave a comment on this post or check out this post where I share a few eco-friendly tips for hosting a green Halloween.
Additionally, I wanted to share another article that I wrote for 5 Minutes for Going Green called “Fall Cleanup with a Little Bit of Elbow Grease and Manpower.” As the title indicates, this post discusses how to clean up the leaves in our yards in an environmentally mindful way (you probably guessed it . . . it doesn’t involve motorized equipment or power tools).
And last but certainly not least on Halloween, I wanted to pass along a few tips that I found in the Washington Post from the American Red Cross about ensuring a safe Halloween for you and yours.
- Stick to sidewalks where possible, and look both ways before crossing the street.
- Wear light-colored or reflective clothing to be visible to drivers in the dark – or at least put some reflective tape on that black witch costume!
- Plan a route and share it with your family. Children and adults should stick together.
- Carry a flashlight to illuminate the way.
- Use face paint rather than masks that can cover your eyes.
- Buy costumes made from flame-retardant materials, and keep clear of open flames.
- Only visit homes that have the porch light on. Don’t enter a stranger’s home, but insist on accepting your treats at the door.
- Parents, inspect your kids’ candy and discard any that are already open.
Be merry, be safe, and folks, have a wonderful Halloween!
Cheers,
Jessica
