Now that our family is growing a vegetable and herb garden, we are eager to learn new recipes that use the foods our gardens produce. Since I am an avid lover of teas, I wanted to experiment with our fresh mint to make a mint iced tea. My recipe was similar to this
one, but I made a few substitutions. Here’s how I brewed my very own fresh orange mint iced tea:
Ingredients
4 peppermint or mint tea bags
1/2 cup fresh mint (chopped up)
4 mint leaves to garnish
turbinado sugar (to taste)
1/2 cup orange juice
2 cups ice
Recipe

1. Bring 2 cups water to a boil. Add tea bags and chopped mint. Let simmer on low heat for 5 minutes.
2. Remove from heat. Squeeze tea bags and remove from water. Allow tea to cool to room temperature.
3. Strain tea into 2 cups.
4. Add 1/4 cup orange juice to each cup.
5. Add ice and sugar to personal preference. I like alotta ice and lots of sugar.

6. Garnish with 2 mint leaves for each cup.

7. Enjoy your orange mint iced tea. Yum!
My husband commented that our homemade iced tea tastes like a mojito without the alcohol.

Oh yum! I’ve been looking for a way to break Ed’s Snapple Addiction. A tea like this might do the trick!!!

This tea is yum! And I think Snapple is not so bad. Just watch out for high fructose corn syrup. I also recommend using a BPA free reusable bottle if you make him homemade tea to bring to work. I am hoping to change my mother’s boyfriend’s habit of reusing his #1 plastic bottles for iced tea ( he buys the tea in bulk by the gallon and divides it up into old bottles, so at least he’s got good intentions of reusing and saving on plastic consumption).
Anyway, I hope Ed enjoys this alcohol free mojito!
